Practical Driving Test
There are 5 parts to your practical driving test.
Your driving test will take around 40 minutes, and the examiner will be assessing your driving skills to ensure that you can drive safely alone.
First of all, your eyesight will be checked to make sure that you can read a car number plate from a distance of 20 meters.
Before you set off you'll be asked a one "tell me" question. An example of a "tell me" question could be "Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road".
During your test, whilst driving, you will also be asked a "show me" question. An example of a "show me" question could be "When it's safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the rear windscreen?"
Your examiner will ask you to drive in various traffic and road conditions, whilst following their directions, to assess your general driving ability. You'll be asked to make several stops during the test, such as pulling away from behind parked vehicles and hill starts. You may also be asked to perform an emergency stop.
You'll be asked to demonstrate your safe ability to reverse your vehicle by undertaking one of four reversing maneuvers, these being 1) parallel park at the side of the road. 2) forward parking into a bay and reversing out. 3) reverse parking into a bay and driving out. 4) pull up on the right hand side of the road, reverse for 2 car lengths and rejoin the traffic.
You will then have to demonstrate your ability during an independent driving session. For around twenty minutes, you will be required to follow a route either using a Sat Nav or by following road signs. Your examiner will tell you which method to use and, if required, will program the Sat Nav for you.
You shouldn't worry about any of the above however, Lesley's Driving Tuition of Doncaster will ensure that you are fully prepared for the test and capable of successfully completing all elements of the test.
